Included with every Longridge mountcutter is an instructional DVD that explains in detail exactly how to cut a simple
mount using any Longridge System. A further chapter includes an introduction to some of the more advanced techniques, such as cutting double and step mounts. It also shows how to cut V groove decoration, but please not this facility is not available with earlier versions of the Longridge bevel mount cutter. We have found that people who have never cut a mount before
will be able to cut a professional quality mount with just a
little practice and careful attention to the instructions.
Many people will want to take the art of mountcutting further
though and experiment with double mounts and multiple apertures.
As with every craft, there are also tips and tricks of the trade
that can only be learned from an expert. So we at Longridge
are delighted to recommend the workshops run by Larry StCroix
MA (RCA) Cert Ed. Larry runs frequent workshops for artists
and photographers as well as tailor made workshops for individuals
and groups of friends, all using Longridge products and accessories.
Let your imagination fly - changing
the colour of the mountboard and the shape of the mount has
huge impact on how the finished artwork looks - and a workshop
is the ideal opportunity to try out new ideas with colour
and shape.
Workshops can be for
one or more people and the cost will dependent upon needs, venue
and locality, but will generally include the supply of mountboard,
other materials being charged at cost as required.
Each workshop is designed around the needs of the particular
students attending but a typical workshop will be a full day
and generally include
Introduction to types of mountboard and mount materials
Introduction to the Longridge mount cutting system, tools
and accessories.
Measuring & estimating.
Demonstrations of preparing -
Single aperture mount
Double aperture mount
Multi-aperture mount
Mount with title aperture
Creative cutting and applications
Use of surplus mountboard for making greeting cards.
Mounting the art work and/or photograph.
All participants will prepare and construct all types
of mounts as listed above and mount at least one piece of
art work and/or photograph.
A brief introduction to picture framing including a demonstration
of fitting and fixing the mounted item.
Those who attend the
workshop will use the Longridge system (either one they have
already purchased or one that is provided during the workshop).
There will also be an opportunity to purchase the recommended
mount cutting system (plus accessories) as demonstrated and
used throughout the workshop.
