When to choose from the Duo
Range?

Professional quality bevel edge window mountcutters
|
The
three mountcutters in the Duo System Range are designed to cut
bevel edged window mounts in mountboard . They are ideal for
artists, hobbyists, and photographers who have high standards
of craftsmanship and enjoy working with precision quality tools.
The squaring facility of Duo Mountcutter Systems makes the task
of cutting the mountboard to size - and getting the mount square
- extremely easy. Get this wrong and all your efforts cutting
the window will be compromised.
The Duo, Duo Plus and Duo Mini Systems are identical except
for size and the Duo Mini can also be used for cutting card.
If cutting larger mounts is required, then the Duo Plus is for
you. If work space is at a premium, consider the Duo Mini. For
average sized work, then the Duo System itself offers an excellent
choice. |

When choosing a mountcutter, is
it vital to ensure that it has all the features you require.
Anyone who has ever tried to cut a mount with a 'cheap' mountcutter
(or even a craft knife and straight edge) will appreciate the
design features of Longridge mountcutters that ensure the final
result is a crisply cut, accurately positioned window at a consistently
bevelled angle.
The heart of any cutting equipment must be the cutter itself
and the Duo Systems include a vertical cutter and a bevel cutter
both of which are professionally designed and engineered and
that use high quality carbon steel blades. |
Cutting
the mountboard to size
The vertical cutter is used to cut the mountboard to size initially
and locates onto the Guide Rail so that it glides along the
rail requiring minimum effort to achieve a clean crisp cut.
Squaring pins in the base of the Duo Systems ensure that the
mount itself is cut square. Obviously if the mount is not cut
square in the first place then there is no hope of a satisfactory
finished mount! |
 Marking
out the window
Marking out the border accurately is vital to the finished mount
and this is made easy with the specially designed marker gauge.
This invaluable tool also makes the whole marking out operation
very quick and efficient.
Adjusting the border marker for the correct border width is
simply achieved by twisting the yellow slider, moving it to
the required point on the scale and then twisting again to lock
it. The window is then marked out using the edge of the mount
as a guide which ensures that the window is positioned correctly
and that it is located squarely within the mount. |
Cutting
the bevel
Achieving an accurate bevel edge that is clean, crisp and easy
to cut requires a well designed cutter manufactured to a specification
to match the qualtiy of the design. Considerable innovation
and devevopment over several years has made the unique Longridge
cutting technology, that is at the heart of every Longridge
mountcutter, the best and easiest to use we believe there is
on the market. It delivers consistency and accuracy so that
every window is cut to the highest professional quality.
Like the vertical cutter, the bevel cutter locates onto the
Guide Rail and glides along the rail with very little effort
needed, without the expected need for force. Contrary to normal
expectation, mount cutting should be light to the touch, not
like a train ramming into the buffers! Let the cutter do the
work.
In fact, putting any significant pressure on any Longridge cutter
is likely to result in a poorer quality cut than if the cutter
is allowed to do the work itself. This means that the smooth
cutting action, though much appreciated by everyone, does allow
those with some impairment in the use of their hands to use
Longridge mountcutters.
The blade rotates smoothly into the mountboard surface at the
beginning of a cut. It is not a plunge action This prevents
crushing or bruising of the mountboard at the start of each
cut and improves the quality of the corner and finish of the
window.
Cutter stops indicate exactly where the bevel cut should start
and finish ensuring that the window is cut to exactly the correct
dimensions. Over or under cutting are controlled by adjusting
the depth of the blade. This is factory set for standard mountboard
but can easily be adjusted for different qualities or thicknesses
of board. |
The
finished mount
A perfectly squared mount
With a crisply cut consistently angled bevel edge window
With neat, accurate corners with no under- or over-cutting
Perfectly positioned within the mount.
Expect no less! |
Card
Cutting
The Duo Mini is specially adapted to cut card as well as mountboard.
Its compact size makes it an excellent choice for card makers
as well as for cutting small bevel edge window mounts. |
