When to choose a Solo System?
Professional
quality bevel edge window mountcutter for pre-cut mount blanks |
The
Longridge Solo System mountcutter is designed for cutting bevel
edged window apertures in pre-cut mount blanks. This makes it
ideal for craft work that is frequently finished to standard
sizes and for which pre-cuts are readily available. If you want
to cut mounts to size from a sheet of mountboard, one of the
Duo range of mountcutting systems is recommended as these include
a vertical cutter, a base and a squaring facility.
The Solo System offers an economic way of mounting standard
sized artwork and of course using a pre-cut mount blank makes
the job that little bit quicker too since part of the job is
already done!
Alternatively, if you are student on a budget and your college
has a heavy duty, commercial type guillotine, then the Solo
is suitable. Please note though that mountboard sheet is too
thick for a normal home or lightweight office guillotine to
cut.
The same Bevel Edge Cutter and Guide Rail are used in all the
Longridge mountcutting systems. We never compromise on quality
which means that if in the future you should decide to upgrade
a Solo system to a Duo System, then this can be done by buying
the additional items individually. |
 Marking
out the window
The Marker Gauge makes this easy and very quick to do. Simply
adjust the marker to give the correct border width using the
scale and then use the edge of the mount as a reference to mark
out the window which will now be squarely positioned within
the mount. |
Cutting
the bevel
At the heart of any cutting system is the cutter itself and
the innovative technology in the design of the Longridge bevel
cutter ensures it glides along the rail effortlessly. The result
is a smooth cutting action without the anticipated need to apply
force. Though much appreciated by everyone, this does allow
those with some restriction in the use of their hands to use
Longridge mountcutters.
The Bevel Cutter comes preset for work with standard quality
mountboard sheet but if either thicker or thinner material is
used, then the blade depth can be adjusted to ensure no over
or under cutting occurs at the window corners.
The combination of the mount stop and the bevel cutter stops
ensures perfectly cut bevelled edge window apertures with no
over or under cutting in the corners. |
